Aranze con frutto e foglia variegato

The image is a historical hand-colored engraving by Johann Christoph Volckamer, published circa 1713–1714 in Nuremberg, Germany. The print is titled “Aranze con frutto e foglia variegato” (Orange with variegated fruit and leaf) and depicts an orange variety above a landscape view of an Italian palace, the Palazzo del Sig. Lucatello a St. Pietro Montagnon, where natural hot springs (“aque bollenti naturali”) are mentioned in the inscription. The work is from Volckamer’s comprehensive two-volume botanical work Nürnbergische Hesperides, which focused on citrus fruits and their cultivation, published between 1708 and 1714.
